MARSYS CELEBRATES ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY
Global Vision Guides IT Icon Through Its First Quarter Century;
Strategic Growth Marks Its Future

SAN MATEO, April 3, 2007-- The information technology (IT) industry is known for both its youth and its volatility. Venture capital-backed companies seem to appear overnight—and often disappear just as quickly. Even some of the survivors of the dot-com boom are less than ten years old. So it’s all the more impressive, given this mercurial backdrop, that MARSYS marks a quarter century of continuous operation. Known as The Authority in Service Oriented IT, MARSYS, unlike so many other players in the IT space, began its journey with a global vision, which it was able to leverage and strategically grow, thus paving the way for its next 25 years of success.

The brainchild of founder Carlos M. Collazo, “MARSYS” is a truncated incarnation of the company’s original name, Mariner Systems, which was created in 1982 to provide data and logistics analysis services to the international shipping (hence “Mariner”) and trade industries. Collazo was well suited to this role, having created the progenitor of what is today the United Nations Harmonized System for the correlation and classification of data. Adopted by the U.N., it served as the main data transactional base in over 200 countries.

During the early years of MARSYS (at which time, it may be noted, many of the current leaders in its field had not yet learned to read!), the company provided services to the majority of leading international trade companies and organizations worldwide, including such names as Maersk, Evergreen, Hyundai, Nippon Yusen Kasisha, and Zim Container, as well as many of their trade partners and industry verticals. As the company expanded its presence—across both geographic and industry borders—into the mid-1990s, it simultaneously developed many of its global methodologies and practices, along with core technologies for the operation and execution of application management services.

From the mid-90s to the present, MARSYS has been able to parlay its strength in international trade services to diversify into other industries and channels, penetrating markets in the Financial, High Tech, Manufacturing, Energy, and Medical/Pharmaceutical and Government sectors. Most recently, MARSYS has reorganized the enterprise into three business units, dubbed OnDemand, TotalEnterprise, and GlobalView, to coincide with its three core areas of expertise: creating, implementing, and optimizing sophisticated business IT services, respectively.

“It takes a lot of really talented and hard-working people to help a company reach this kind of milestone,” notes MARSYS Founder Carlos M Collazo. “And that pretty much describes everyone you’ll find on our team. It’s what lets us take such a partner-like approach to our clients, which contributes to the success of their businesses, which in turn contributes to ours.”
